Beginning Monday, April 17, construction crews will
begin major road improvements on Collins Street from Mayfield Road to
Pioneer Parkway in Arlington.
Project engineers say the year-long project could
result in traffic delays. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution
and consider alternate routes such as Cooper Street and New York
Avenue.
Beginning Monday, traffic disruption is expected to
occur at the intersection of Collins Street and Mayfield Road while
storm drains and water lines are installed. As the project progresses,
northbound and southbound lane closures along Collins Street will
occur.
According to Public Works Engineer Stu Bauman, the
project includes street reconstruction, the addition of fifth and
sixth lanes, drainage, sidewalks, streetlights, pavement markings,
median landscaping and irrigation improvements.
The $6.9 million project is being funded by bonds
approved by voters in 1994 and 2003. This project is scheduled for
completion in April 2007.
