Arlington residents and businesses in southwest
Arlington will have new and improved transportation routes when $7.5
million in construction starts this winter.
Pleasant Ridge Road between Kelly Elliott Road and
Bowen Road is scheduled to become a four-lane divided boulevard. Park
Springs Boulevard between Pleasant Ridge Road and Interstate 20 will
become a four-lane divided boulevard. Pleasant Ridge Road and Parks
Springs Boulevard are currently two-lane, county-type roads. Map is
attached.
Project Engineer Keith Brooks said the $7.5 million
project also includes bridge and drainage improvements, new
landscaping, street lights and pavement markings. This transportation
improvement project also includes an eight-foot wide hike and bike
trail to be constructed on the south side of Pleasant Ridge Road
between Park Springs Boulevard and Rush Creek. This project is
schedule for completion in May 2008.
"One of our goals is to get in front of this
project and let the public know what to expect," Brooks said. "Public
meetings and information updates on our website will help keep people
informed every step of the way."
An engineering services contract is being developed
to update construction plans to current standards. The project is
scheduled to go out for bid in September 2006. Construction is
scheduled to start in November 2006.
According to the Public Works Department, the
proposed realignment of Pleasant Ridge Road at Kelly Elliott Road will
be located south of Tate Cemetery. The cemetery will not be disturbed.
It will have driveway access from Pleasant Ridge Road upon completion
of the project.
The funds for this project are made possible from
street bond funds authorized by Arlington voters in 1999.
