PRESS RELEASES - DECEMBER 2005
Residents Urged to Follow Fire Safety Precautions
Outdoor Burn Ban Remains in Effect
December 28, 2005
Recent wind-blown grass fires that destroyed
several structures in Arlington and neighboring communities have
raised safety concerns among residents and city officials. Arlington
residents are reminded that a county-wide burn ban remains in effect.
All outdoor burning in Tarrant County is prohibited.
Drought conditions, lower than normal humidity and
strong winds make special precautions to protect properties in
Arlington necessary. The Arlington Fire Department offers the
following fire safety information:
- Use caution when discarding any smoking materials (cigarettes,
cigars, etc.)
- Be sure that all outdoor cooking is attended at all times
- Keep landscaping watered in accordance with wise watering
principles
- Outdoor burning of trash is prohibited during the burn ban
- Fireworks are prohibited within the city limits of Arlington
Mayor Robert Cluck encourages Arlington residents
to use caution and to follow the Fire Department’s recommendations.
"This week we have learned just how quickly
dangerous brush fires can spread, putting people and property at
severe risk," Mayor Cluck said. "During this drought we will continue
to be extremely vigilant in enforcing the ordinances that are in place
to protect all of us from fires."
Citizens should utilize 9-1-1 to report unattended grass fires,
structure fires and other emergencies. |
