PRESS RELEASES - DECEMBER 2005

This Month at the Arlington Public Library

December 05, 2005

Arlington public libraries have planned a number of holiday programs and educational activities for children of all ages in December. For a comprehensive listing of programs and activities, go to www.pub-lib.ci.arlington.tx.us.

Explore Narnia! is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 8, at the George W. Hawkes Central Library Computer Training Center. Children ages 7 to 12 will explore selected Internet sites about C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series and create personalized bookmarks from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to print and take home. Registration is limited to 10 students. Please call 817-459-6900 and select option 4, and then option 2.

Mayor Robert Cluck’s Holiday Party for Kids is 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 10, at the George W. Hawkes Central Library. Mayor and Mrs. Cluck will read holiday stories, and children will enjoy refreshments, arts and crafts and other activities. This event is free. Registration is not required.

Visit to Narnia is 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 17, at the George W. Hawkes Central Library. Whether or not you have read the book, The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe, or seen the new movie, you can still visit the enchanted land of Narnia. There will be dramatic readings from the book, games to play and crafts to make – but keep an eye out for the White Witch. This free program is appropriate for children in elementary school. Registration is not required.

I Smell Chocolate! is 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 17, at the East Arlington Branch Library. Do chocolate, cinnamon and peppermint remind you of the holidays? Then join us for an hour of

fun and test your knowledge with chocolate trivia and games; make a holiday ornament of peppermint play dough to take home and learn how to make holiday treats for your whole family. This program is free for children up to age 9 and their parents.

Snowflakes is 4 p.m. Monday, December 19, at the George W. Hawkes Central Library Computer Training Center. A computer class all about snowflakes will help children ages 7 to 12 start the winter break with a chill! Discover that no two snowflakes are alike by using Microsoft Word and a digital camera to create a personalized snowflake ornament or bookmark. Registration is limited to 10 students. Call 817-459-6900 and select option 4 and then option 2.

Puppet Theater is 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at the Lake Arlington Branch Library. Enjoy two charming puppet plays by the Lake Arlington Teen Players and, afterward, make your own stick puppets to take home. This program is for children in kindergarten through fourth grade.
