In November 2004, the City of Arlington purchased
eleven properties with HOME grant funds awarded by the United States
Housing and Urban Development. Plans include selling the eleven vacant
lots to a developer who will build quality, single-family,
owner-occupied housing, according to David Zappasodi, Arlington’s
assistant director of the Neighborhood Services Department. The lots
are located in the 400 block of Jordan Lane in central Arlington.
According to Zappasodi, the new neighborhood
development program is designed to improve the quality of housing on
Jordan Lane and serve as a catalyst for additional neighborhood
improvements.
Interested developers are required to submit a bid
proposal, which will be reviewed and scored based on the criteria
outlined in the proposal.
Eligible individuals and families must have incomes
at or below the limits defined by HUD. For example: a four-member
household with a gross annual income at or below $50,150 could
qualify. Applicants must have a credit score and sufficient income to
qualify for a private mortgage. The City of Arlington could provide up
to $5,000 for closing and down payment costs for qualified applicants.
