Lake Fest is Saturday, Sept. 24 at Lake Arlington. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., children and adults can enjoy fishing, games, concessions, and more. Lake Arlington is located at 6300 W. Arkansas Lane. This year, Lake Fest is being combined with the 2005 Arlington Challenge Team Bass Tournament. In the event of severe weather, both events will be cancelled, according to Parks and Recreation Department officials.

"This is the first year to have a festival along with the bass tournament," said Cory Styron, a project organizer and Parks and Recreation Maintenance Supervisor. "We are planning for it to be a great way to showcase Lake Arlington and provide a variety of fun and educational activities."

Lake Fest will include a children’s fishing tournament with trophy awards, games and face painting activities. Educational demonstrations will also take place throughout the day on topics ranging from the environment to kayaking.

From 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the 2005 Arlington Challenge Bass Tournament will be open to the general public. The entry fee is $100 per team. The tournaments typically have a cash payback of about 80 percent, according to Lake Supervisor Ted Clay. The winning weight for the Best Five Bass prize has ranged from 13 to 16 ½ lbs.
