Hurricane Katrina Service Center in Arlington to Help Register People for Disaster Relief by Cheryel Carpenter In cooperation with the City of Arlington, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is establishing a Katrina Service Center/FEMA registration site at the Elzie Odom Recreation Center in Arlington (1601 N.E. Green Oaks Blvd) for people living in Arlington who may be eligible for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief, but who have not yet registered for it. In addition, FEMA will be sending community relations teams to potential sheltering sites throughout Arlington to provide essential information to people about how they can register by either going online to www.fema.gov, calling FEMA’s toll free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) – TTY 800-462-7585, or applying in person at a local registration center. On Tuesday, September 13 and Wednesday, September 14, people who have not already registered with FEMA can apply in person from 12 Noon to 7 PM at the Arlington site. People registered with FEMA will also have access at the site to a variety of other agencies offering help. FEMA registration and other agencies’ services will also continue to be provided at the Fort Worth Disaster Center from 8 AM to 8 PM at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, located at 3400 Burnett-Tandy Drive in Fort Worth. The new outreach effort in Arlington is an extension of FEMA’s area-wide efforts to serve those affected by Hurricane Katrina. FEMA, in cooperation with the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County and other state and local authorities has been able to register hundreds of people living around the Fort Worth area in the last few days. |
