At 2:30 p.m., the first of approximately forty disabled, elderly, and children will arrive at the Eastern Star Home today located at 1201 E. Division Street.

The evacuees will be transported from three area shelters that include Elzie Odom Recreation Center, the Salvation Army, and Grace Street Fellowship.

Arlington city council members, staff and volunteers spent the last several days getting the facility ready.

"The hundreds of people who worked on the Eastern Star project, once again proved, that Arlington is not only a can-do city, but that we are all in this together," said Mayor Robert Cluck.

"Our city staff and scores of community volunteers spent the entire Labor Day weekend cleaning and making numerous repairs", said Mayor Pro Tem Ron Wright. "We in Arlington are very fortunate to have a facility like the Eastern Star Home, it is almost ideal for this particular use."

The infirmary unit will house the evacuees whose health problems range from dialysis patients to respiratory problems for what is expected to be an unknown period of time.

All evacuees moving to the Easter Star Home were prescreened for serious health issues from other shelter facilities or are family members accompanying those with serious health issues. The Easter Star Home can house up to fifty-eight special needs patients.
