Four Historic Arlington Homes to Be Given Away
City to Publish RFP for Transferring Ownership

by Cheryel Carpenter
May 20, 2005

The City of Arlington owns four historic homes that need to be relocated to make way for future development opportunities and expanded city services. The city does not want to destroy the historical significance of the homes located on West Division Street.

“There will be no charge for taking ownership of the home, but all costs associated with relocation, preservation and code compliance must be borne by the new owner,” said Acting Director Lee Hitchcock.

Over the next few weeks, the City of Arlington will be developing a Request for Proposals (RFP), to enable fair and equitable access to the structures. The RFP will be published within the next 30 days via the website, cable and news media.

If you are interested in one of the historic homes, you must apply through the RFP process, which will include the following requirements:

  1. Must demonstrate the ability to pay for the physical relocation of the home
  2. The home must remain within the city limits of Arlington
  3. The home must comply with all local and state building codes for the intended use
  4. The home must remain as a historical structure
