Businesses Partner with Arlington Police for 3 Saturday Safety Events by Cheryel Carpenter
Schedule of Events Bicycle Rodeo and Kids Safety Day: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Michaels parking lot, 1108 W. Arbrook Blvd. - Children who bring bikes and helmets learn bicycle safety in a free skills course from certified Arlington Police bicycle officers. Children receive a bicycle safety license and prizes donated by local businesses. Includes bicycle decorating contest and information for parents. Five children will win bicycles during a free drawing. S.A.F.E. Vehicle Burglary Education: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005 at The Parks at Arlington (mall): 3811 S. Cooper St. - Participants find crime prevention "violations" and enter a drawing for prizes including tickets to Hurricane Harbor, Six Flags, the Texas Rangers, and South Cooper Street restaurant coupons. - Tarrant County Auto Theft Task force offers free VIN etching (a $150 value that may qualify participants for an insurance discount). Officers and volunteers grade vehicles parked at the mall with "vehicle burglary report cards" and encourage simple steps to prevent vehicle burglary. S.A.F.E Career Day: 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005 at The Parks at Arlington (mall): 3811 S. Cooper St. - Job Fair: Participants of all ages discover local job openings. Attendees include U.S. Air Force, Army and Marines, The Parks at Arlington, Six Flags Over Texas, Hurricane Harbor, and many other local businesses. Sponsored by the Arlington Police Department and The Parks at Arlington. - Games (inside mall): Broom ball from 5–8 p.m. at The Ice at the Parks; Rocky Mountain climb and Twister (times to be announced).
