Don Misenhimer Neighborhood Park Dedication is April 16 by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington will dedicate Don Misenhimer Neighborhood Park during ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16. The 12-acre park is located in south Arlington at 201 E. Lonesome Dove Trail. Features include a playground, water spray area, sand volleyball court, basketball court, playing field, trail and pavilion. Speakers will include Misenhimer’s widow, Linda Misenhimer, and son, Brett Misenhimer. The program will also include Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, District 3 City Council member Wayne Ogle, and Park and Recreation Board Chair Sue Phillips. About Don Misenhimer and His Legacy of Community Service in Arlington Don Misenhimer was a longtime Arlington resident known for his many contributions to area youth and various community programs. He was born in Ft. Worth in 1946. He was a graduate of Texas Wesleyan College and served in the United States Army Reserve. In 1972, he became an Arlington resident, and began a 25-year career as a residential and commercial builder in the city. Throughout his career, Misenhimer was involved in City of Arlington and Tarrant County programs. He served on the Futures Committee of the Arlington Independent School District and board president of Big Brothers and Big Sisters Arlington Chapter. He also chaired the Arlington Big Brothers and Big Sisters Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. Misenhimer was a founding member of the Lamar High School Booster Club and the Arlington Optimist Sundowner Club, which promotes teenage baseball in the city. Additionally, he assisted with the construction of a baseball field in Randol Mill Park. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Trinity United Methodist Church, as a member of the Tarrant County Grand Jury and chairman of the City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Board. Misenhimer died in 1997, at the age of 51, leaving a legacy of community service.
