Free Mulch Available at Landfill for Arlington Residents

April 8, 2005

The City of Arlington is giving away free mulch at the Arlington Sanitary Landfill, 800 Mosier Valley Rd. The mulch is available to Arlington residents only while supplies last. Contractors and commercial vehicles will not be allowed to participate.

The mulch comes from recycled Christmas trees and last fall’s "Don’t Bag It" leaf recycling program.

Recycling Coordinator Lorrie Anderle said adding mulch to flower beds and gardens forms a good weed barrier and helps the soil retain moisture.

Christmas tree and leaf recycling helps to extend the life of the landfill and frees up approximately 3,000 cubic yards of space in the landfill.

How to Get Free Mulch

  1. Visit the Arlington Sanitary Landfill at 800 Mosier Valley Road between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  2. If arriving by truck or with a trailer, please have a tarp to cover the bed and prevent spills.
  3. Bring garbage bags for easy storing and transporting of mulch.
  4. Proof of Arlington residency is required. Contractors are not allowed to participate.
  5. If you require loading assistance, call 817-283-0632 before arriving to ensure that someone from the Landfill’s staff will be available to help.
