East Arlington Homework Center Needs Students, Tutors by Cheryel Carpenter The East Arlington Branch Library Homework Center at 1624 New York Ave. is accepting registrations for six week, one-on-one tutoring sessions in reading, writing and math. The tutorials are for students in the first, second and third grades. Applications for volunteer tutors are being accepted so that more students can be provided assistance. Training for tutors is provided. The Homework Center is currently staffed by AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America members and volunteer tutors. According to East Area Branch Manager Rachel Orozco, 18 children are currently receiving instruction at the center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Volunteers are also available one hour every Friday at 4 p.m. to assist children with computers in the Homework Center.
