Filing Process for the Arlington City Council Continues Through March 7

This spring, Arlington voters will be electing a mayor and city council representatives from single-member districts 3, 4 and 5. Voters will also be electing a city council representative from at-large district 8. Election Day is Saturday, May 7. Early voting starts April 20. The last day to vote early is May 3.

The filing process continues through 5 p.m. Monday, March 7. Applications are available in the City Secretary’s Office, which is located on the first floor of the Arlington Municipal Building at 101 W. Abram St.

Filing qualifications:

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the city of Arlington for six months if filing for an at-large or council district position.
  • Must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the city of Arlington at the time of filing as a candidate.
  • Must not be indebted to the City of Arlington and must not hold any public office of emolument, which is defined as a position for profit or compensation. Shall not be interested in the profits of any contract, job, work or service for the city, or have interest in the sale to the city of any supplies, equipment, material or articles.
  • Must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of his or her respective district at the time of filing for the election, if filing for a single-member district.
  • Must not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
  • Must not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released.
  • Must pay a $100 filing fee or have a petition signed by registered voters in the district. The mayor and the at-large district 8 positions require 83 signatures, single-member districts 3 and 5 require 25 signatures, and single-member district 4 requires 27 signatures.
