Implementation of New Phone System to Temporarily Interrupt Telephone Service to Many City of Arlington Offices by Cheryel Carpenter Telephone service to the Arlington Municipal Building, the Municipal Office Tower and many City of Arlington offices will be temporarily interrupted for four hours beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, while a contractor installs a new telephone system. Intermittent phone service outages for many non-critical City of Arlington telephone numbers are expected to continue throughout the weekend and on Monday, Jan. 17, which is the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Implementation of the new telephone system is not expected to impact 911 emergency calls. Telephone service to the following City of Arlington offices will be minimally impacted from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15: Municipal Court, George W. Hawkes Central Library, Fire Station No. 1, Southeast Branch Library, Water Utilities South Service Center, West Police Service Center, Fire Station No. 14, Fire Training, East Police Service Center and the Arlington Tennis Center. Telephone service to the following City of Arlington offices is expected to be disrupted intermittently from January 15-17: Fire Management Services, Fire Prevention, Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Offices, Facility Services, Traffic Operations, Street Division, Fleet Services, Neighborhood Services, Ott Cribbs Public Safety Building and the Water Utilities North Annex. While phone service to the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Building will be temporarily interrupted, bond information about inmates in the Arlington City Jail can be found at www.arlingtonpd.org. On the web site, bond information is updated every five minutes. Contractors estimate the new telephone system will be fully operational by 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. All City of Arlington phone numbers and extensions will remain unchanged. |
