Deputy City Managers Announce Retirements

City Manager Chuck Kiefer announced today the retirements of the City’s deputy city manager for administration and deputy city manager for community resources.

Charlie Anderson, deputy city manager for administration, will be retiring after 33 years with the City. Anderson was the director of the City’s Water Utility prior to being promoted to deputy city manager fifteen months ago.

Gayle Lacerda, deputy city manager for community resources, will be retiring after 27 years of public service. Lacerda, who returned to the City as a deputy city manager five years ago, had worked in the City’s Human Resources Department for 12 years before becoming the Human Resources director at the City of Irving and at the D/FW International Airport.

"This seemed like a natural time to go with the completion of several large projects and the beginning of many new things in the coming year," Lacerda said.

Both Lacerda and Anderson said they had committed to working for the existing administration when they were hired, and when Kiefer announced his resignation last Friday, they were prepared to make their retirement announcements.

"We can count on the strength of the executive staff that is in place, to carry on," Anderson said. "This is the strongest staff we have ever had, and they will lead the organization forward."

Both Anderson and Lacerda will be retiring effective January 3, 2005.
