817-459-6404 Call For Entries! The annual Sharing the Dream Student art and essay competitions are under way. The entry deadline is Oct. 15. The contests are being coordinated by the Arlington Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee. About the Essay Contest The Sharing the Dream Essay Contest is open to all high school seniors who attend Arlington schools or reside in the city limits of Arlington. The essay theme is "Sharing the Dream: Where do we go from here?" Scholarships to help defray the cost of college tuition and books will be awarded to the top three essay writers. The first place winner will receive $1,000, the second place winner will receive $750 and the third place winner will receive $500. The entry deadline for the Essay Contest is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. About the Art Contest The Sharing the Dream Art Contest is open to all junior and senior high school students within the Arlington city limits. The winning art design will appear on all Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration materials, including T-shirts, programs, posters and flyers that promote the four-day celebration, which starts Jan. 14, 2005. United States Savings Bonds will be awarded to the top three winners of the Art Contest. The first place winner will receive $1,000, the second place winner will receive $750 and the third place winner will receive $500. The entry deadline for the Art Contest is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Announcement of Winners/Contest Information Essay and Art Contest winners will be announced Monday, Nov. 15. Winners will be recognized during the Sharing the Dream Banquet on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at the University of Texas at Arlington. During the banquet, the winning essay will be read aloud by the student author. AISD Director of Public Information Veronica Sopher chairs this year’s Sharing the Dream Essay Contest.
