Public Hearing is Tuesday, Sept. 14 on FY 2005 City Budget

The Arlington City Council will conduct a public hearing on the budget at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Council Chamber, 101 W. Abram St.

During the public hearing, participants will be allowed three to five minutes for public comment. Participants must complete a Speaker Card at the entrance to the Council Chamber and return it to a staff member. Those who do not wish to address the City Council, but desire to record an opinion, are asked to complete a Speaker Card and check Non-Speaker. The comments on the card become a part of the official record of the public hearing.

On August 17, City Manager Chuck Kiefer presented a $175 million General Fund budget for Fiscal Year 2005, including a proposed 1.89 cent property tax rate increase. The City Council is currently reviewing several no tax increase funding options. The property tax rate is currently 64.8 cents per $100 assessed property value.

The proposed FY 2005 budget is available on the City of Arlington web site at www.ci.arlington.tx.us. For more information about the budget or Tuesday’s public hearing, call the City of Arlington Office of Communication at 817-459-6402.

Tuesday’s meeting will be broadcast live on City Cable Channel 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The proposed budget and tax rate for FY 2005 is scheduled for a vote on first reading at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21. Second and final readings are scheduled to occur at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28. The new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
