The second annual One Book, One Arlington project is a citywide literacy initiative that encourages Arlington residents to read together. Development Officer Andi Davis said the goal is to promote literacy and create a sense of community focus, interaction and dialogue.

This year’s selection is Lone Star Literature: From the Red River to the Rio Grande. In this anthology of short stories, author Don Graham has rounded up a comprehensive collection of writings that provide an overview of the diversity and excellence of Texas literature.

Project partners include Comcast Communications, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, the North Texas Regional Library System, the University of Texas at Arlington and Tarrant County College.

On Saturday, Aug. 14, the Barnes and Noble at 3909 S. Cooper St. will kick off the project with a book sale and signing.

According to Davis, discussion groups will begin forming in September at public libraries, UTA and local coffee houses. The project will culminate with a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 at Tarrant County College – Southeast Arlington campus. The discussion will be led by Jeff Guinn, a Fort Worth Star-Telegram book editor. Other panelists will include the author and Lone Star Literature contributing authors Betsy Berry, James Hoggard, Elmer Kelton, Clay Reynolds, and Rolando Hinojosa Smith.
