Approximately 130 residential streets will be resurfaced this summer as part of the City’s micro-seal program. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution through construction zones.

According to Street Superintendent Bill Bateman, the micro-seal process is performed on streets in generally good condition to increase the life of the pavement. Micro-sealing prevents moisture from penetrating the base and improves skid resistance.

Micro-seal involves the placement of a thick layer of polymer modified asphalt to the street surface. When completed, the typical life cycle of a micro-seal treatment is five years. This year’s micro-seal program is approximately $870,000 and is funded by the street maintenance sales tax program.

The City of Arlington Street Division will notify neighborhoods to be temporarily impacted by street construction. Property owners are receiving letters approximately two to three weeks before the project starts. As a reminder, door hangers will be posted 24 to 48 hours before contractors begin work.
