Rain over the past several days has saturated Arlington creeks enough to create a potential flooding situation.

Rush and Lynn creeks in south Arlington overflowed their banks earlier today. The Arlington Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is monitoring the creeks and will continue to monitor them throughout the day. At this time, there are no reports of evacuations or injuries caused by the flooding.

Continued rainfall may cause street flooding. Monitor the National Weather Bureau for any additional flood warnings.

The City of Arlington Office of Emergency Management is urging the driving public to exercise caution during flooding.

What to Do When Floodwaters Cover The Road

  • Flooding is the most common cause of weather-related deaths in Texas.
  • When you observe water across a road, back away and choose a different route. Never drive through heavy water. Water can be deeper than it appears. Water levels can rise quickly.
  • Floodwaters erode roadways. A missing section of a road, even a missing bridge, will not be visible when there is a large amount of water flowing across it.
  • If your car stalls in floodwaters, get out quickly and move to higher ground.

Remember, automobiles can become death traps when electric windows and door locks short out because of contact with water.
