Motorists should expect traffic detours and street closings in downtown Arlington on Wednesday when thousands are expected to gather for the funeral services of Grand Prairie Police Sergeant Gregory Hunter.

The service will be held at First Baptist Church, which is located at 300 S. Center St. Hunter was killed in the line of duty last week during a shooting in Grand Prairie.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Center Street from Abram Street to Second Street will be closed. According to Sgt. Jeffrey Pugh, motorists should also expect closures at Pecan Street, South Street, Mesquite Street and UTA Boulevard. The closures are expected to last until about 4 p.m. when the funeral procession moves from the church to Moore Memorial Gardens on North Davis Drive. Motorists are asked to avoid Division Street, Abram Street, Center Street, Cooper Street and Randol Mill Road.

Motorists are asked to be patient and follow detour signs. Consider alternate east and westbound routes such as Mitchell Street, Park Row Drive and Road to Six Flags. Fielder, Collins, Mesquite and portions of southbound Center Street are alternate north and southbound routes.
