Arlington Salvation Army Center Established as a Cooling Station

June 3, 2004

TXU officials have estimated that isolated power outages could continue through mid-day Friday. The Arlington Salvation Army Center, located at 712 West Abram St., has been established as a cooling station for residents facing continued electricity outages.
According to the National Weather Service, warm temperatures combined with high humidity decrease the body’s ability to cool itself. Residents with no electricity are urged to take advantage of the cooling station.
The Salvation Army plans to serve residents for the next 24 to 48 hours. Those needing to spend the night at the cooling station are asked to bring a bed roll. Residents needing additional information should call Salvation Army representative Nellie Shannon at 817-274-8887.
Elderly and disabled residents are especially encouraged to contact the Salvation Army. City of Arlington Fire officials are asking residents to check on their neighbors. The high heat index can adversely affect the elderly, young children and persons with breathing difficulties.
Residents without telephone service are reminded that emergencies can be reported at any of the City public safety offices or Fire stations.
