Arlington to Celebrate New Park Opening by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington will celebrate the opening of a new 144-acre community park. The dedication ceremony is scheduled to occur at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, in southeast Arlington. Thunderstorms last month prompted the City to reschedule the dedication previously planned for April 24. The Webb Community Park is located at Mansfield Webb Road and Webb Ferrell Road, which is approximately two miles west of State Highway 360 South and less than two miles from the Tarrant County Community College – Southeast Arlington campus. The Webb Community Park dedication will begin at 10 a.m. with Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, the Arlington City Council, Arlington Park and Recreation Board and the Southeast Arlington Community Alliance. The event will also include kite flying activities for youth and free hot dogs. Participants are asked to bring their favorite kite. The 144-acre park has baseball and soccer fields, a basketball court, picnic pavilion, picnic areas, playground, and a nature trail to the pond and fishing dock. The park is named for the historic community of Webb, a 19th century settlement in the southeast part of Arlington. According to Park Planner John Fain, the first phase of the new park was made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and approximately $2.1 million from park fees. Arlington voters authorized $1.2 million for the new park in the 1997 Park Bond Election.
