The City of Arlington will celebrate the opening of a new 144-acre community park on Saturday, April 24 in southeast Arlington.

The Webb Community Park is located at Mansfield Webb Road and Webb Ferrell Road, which is approximately two miles west of State Highway 360 south and less than two miles from the Tarrant County Community College – Southeast Arlington campus.

The Webb Community Park Dedication will begin at 10 a.m. with Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, the Arlington City Council and Arlington Park and Recreation Board. The program will also include representatives from the Southeast Arlington Community Alliance.

Immediately following the dedication, there will be a kite flying contest and free hot dogs. Organizers are asking contest participants to please bring their kites.

The 144-acre park has baseball and soccer fields, a basketball court, picnic pavilion, picnic areas, playground and a nature trail to the pond and fishing dock. The park is named for the historic community of Webb, a 19th century settlement in the southeast part of the city.

According to Park Planner John Fain, the first phase of the new park was made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and approximately $2.1 million from park fees. Arlington voters authorized $1.2 million for the new park in the 1997 Park Bond Election. For a site diagram and additional information about Webb Community Park, go to www.aceacorn.com.
