The ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new West Arlington Police Service Center is 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19. The West Police Service Center is located at 2060 W. Green Oaks Blvd. in Arlington.

The program includes the posting of colors by the Arlington Police Department Honor Guard and greetings from Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck. The program also includes District 4 City Councilmember Kathryn Wilemon, Police Chief Theron Bowman and Neighborhood Services Director Trey Yelverton. Immediately after the ceremony, the new facility will be open for public tours.

City officials say the new 19,285 square-foot facility will be open 24 hours a day and will enhance efforts to improve service and build more community partnerships on the west side of the city. This portion of the city has about 160,000 residents and includes the Parks at Arlington Mall and the Interstate 20 corridor.

The West Police Service Center is located on nearly four acres of land adjacent to the Fire Training Academy near Pioneer Parkway and Green Oaks Blvd. The center is the new home for the deputy chief, command staff, and more than 100 patrol officers and detectives. The Department of Neighborhood Services also has a presence in the West Police Service Center. The center has a community room for neighborhood activities such as Crime Watch and Citizens on Patrol meetings.

The $3.5 million West Police Service Center was funded with bond funds approved by Arlington voters in 1999. It was designed by LBL Architects Inc. of Arlington. Construction was coordinated by Ratliff Constructors, LP of Dallas.
