Committee to Announce MLK Scholarship Winners by Cheryel Carpenter The process to select the winning design from among 437 pieces of art work begins at noon on Monday, Nov. 17. The Arlington Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee is looking for the art work that best reflects Dr. King’s dream. The winning design will appear on publicity materials such as T-shirts, posters and programs that publicize the 2004 MLK Celebration, which begins January 16. Art contest judging begins at noon, Monday, Nov. 17, in the Community Room of the George W. Hawkes Central Library located at 101 E. Abram St. in downtown Arlington. The art design competition was open to junior high and senior high school students in private and public schools who reside within the Arlington city limits. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. The first place winner of the "Sharing the Dream" Art Contest will receive $1,000, the second place winner will receive $750, and the third place winner will receive $500. Immediately following the art contest judging, the MLK Committee will announce the winners of the "Sharing the Dream" Essay Contest, which was open to Arlington area high school students only. The first place winner will receive $1,000, the second place winner will receive $750 and the third place winner will receive $500. The winning essay will be read aloud by the writer at the "Sharing the Dream" Banquet on Jan. 16, 2004
