Media Advisory: Barks for Parks Promises Howling Good Time
at Event to Raise Funds For Off-leash Dog Park

Who: Arlington dog lovers willing to respond to a bark for action.

What: Barks for Parks is an event designed to raise funds to develop a Arlington’s first dog park. Dogs and their owners can participate in a wide range of canine-centered activities including exercise, entertainment and more.

When: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Richard Simpson Park at Lake Arlington, 6300 W. Arkansas Lane in Arlington

Why: The furry, four-legged, barking citizens of Arlington are eager to see construction of the city’s first off-leash dog park. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the construction of the park. The park will provide a venue where responsible dog owners can legally take their dogs off-leash for exercise and socialization. The goal is to raise $30,000 for the park.

Schedule: 8 a.m. Registration

9 a.m. Dog walk (minimum donation of $20, with $5 for each additional dog). Includes walk, goodie bag and access to off-leash area.

10 a.m. Dallas Dog and Disc display

11 a.m. Obedience and therapy demonstration

12 p.m. Contests, including look-alike, stupid pet tricks and a fashion show

12:45 p.m. Raffle

Activities: Off-leash area, mobile pet adoption, pet photos and celebrity dog wash.

Sponsors: City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department and Responsible Unleashed Fun for Fido (RUFF), an Arlington-based not-for-profit organization.
