Beginning Monday, Sept. 15, West Sanford Street from Fielder Road to Oakwood Drive will be closed for fifteen days.

Contractors are improving water, sanitary sewer and storm water drainage in this area. Beginning September 15, large concrete box culverts will be installed underneath the ground between Hickory Street and Del Mar Street. One of the culverts is four feet tall and eight feet wide.

Interim Construction Manager Mike Chapman said the installation of the large culverts is scheduled for completion by Tuesday, Sept. 30. Other drainage improvements, including paving of Sanford Street, are scheduled for completion in September 2004.

Residents on West Sanford will continue to have access to their homes, Chapman said. For safety reasons, no other thru traffic will be allowed on this section of West Sanford Street. Alternate east and westbound routes are Division Street and Randol Mill Road.
