Street Maintenance at Night by Cheryel Carpenter From midnight until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, the intersection at Park Row Drive and Cooper Street will be closed. A contractor will remove two inches of the existing asphalt surface and the City’s Street Division crews will resurface the intersection. Motorists are being asked to consider alternate routes such as Center, Davis, Mitchell and Collins streets. During construction, the Arlington Police Department will assist with traffic direction and detours. According to Street Superintendent Bill Bateman, the resurfacing of the intersection at Park Row Drive and Cooper Street has been scheduled during a time when the impact on travel is minimal. Most street maintenance is done during daylight. "Because of the noise, we can not do this type of street maintenance in residential neighborhoods at night," Bateman said. "The Park Row and Cooper Street intersection is a heavily traveled intersection during the day and completing this project at night seems practical." The intersection is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11. This $40,000 project is being funded by the City’s Street Maintenance Sales Tax.
