Reception to Celebrate the Latest Accomplishment of George W. Hawkes by Cheryel Carpenter A reception to celebrate the release of George W. Hawkes’ new book, To Talk of Many Things, will occur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 19 at the George W. Hawkes Central Library at 101 E. Abram St. in Arlington. To Talk Of Many Things is an anthology of editorials written by Hawkes when he was publisher of the Arlington Citizen-Journal from 1965 to 1988. The weekly columns ran during a period of rapid growth in Arlington history. Hawkes has been an Arlington resident since 1946 and has seen the city grow from 6,500 to more than 350,000 people. The central library was named in his honor in 1994. The book was published by Clear Stream Publishing and will be on sale for $14. A percentage of the proceeds from sales will benefit the Friends of the Arlington Public Library. For more information about this event, call 817-459-6924. |
