Arlington to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of
the End of the Korean War by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington will issue a proclamation at 3 p.m. Friday in honor of Korean War veterans. The media is invited to attend. Sunday, July 27 marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice and official end of the Korean War. Korean War veterans Charles Smith and J. D. Randolph will accept the proclamation, which will be read by Arlington Mayor Robert N. Cluck. The event will occur in the Hall of Mayors at City Hall at 101 W. Abram St. Smith and Randolph will join the North Texas Korean War Veterans Association who will travel to Korea next week with the proclamation. "The City of Arlington honors the men and women who served in the Korean War and we thank them for their sacrifices in the name of freedom," Mayor Cluck said. On June 25, 1950, the Communist Army of North Korea invaded South Korea, initiating the Korean War. The United States joined 20 other nations in helping to end the war on July 27, 1953.
