Dedication of City’s First Public Monument is Saturday, July 12 by Cheryel Carpenter At 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, the citizens of Arlington are invited to attend the dedication of an international peace and friendship monument in downtown Arlington. The monument is currently under construction adjacent to the Arlington Museum of Art at 201 W. Main St. in Gene Allen Park. Working on the monument are three artists from Bad Königshofen, Germany and three artists from Arlington. This collaborative venture is a celebration of the sister city relationship started more than 50 years ago between Arlington and Bad Königshofen, Germany. In 2001, a peace monument was created in Germany when Arlington artists traveled to Bad Königshofen. Through Saturday, August 16, the public can view works by the Arlington and Bad Königshofen artists at the Arlington Musuem of Art. The museum is free and open to the public. For more information, call 817-275-4600. … About the Artists Benito Huerta (Arlington) - Co-founder and vice president of Artiles, a Texas art magazine and director of the UTA Gallery. Currently working on public art projects at the DFW International Airport and the Mexican-American Cultural Center in Austin. Celia Munoz (Arlington) - Multi-media artist known for her diverse works that include writing, photography, painting and public art. Nicholas Wood (Arlington) - A master artist and UTA associate professor of art. Has been exhibiting for more than 28 years. His works include clay sculpturing, drawing and photography. Peter Picciani (Bad Königshofen, Germany) - Sculptor, master wood carver and turner. His public commissions include a city fountain and the Crucifixion overlooking Bad Königshofen. Eva Luna Warmuth (Bad Königshofen, Germany) - A sculptor, professor and installation artist. Christine Wehe-Bamberger (Bad Königshofen, Germany) - An educator, conceptual and installation artist whose work often incorporates fibers and textiles. |
