The Arlington Update City Page Newsletter has earned a state award for outstanding achievement in government communication. The award was presented Friday, June 6, in Corpus Christi during the annual conference of the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers.

The Arlington Update City Page Newsletter is published by the City of Arlington Office of Communication. The newsletter appears monthly as a full page in the Arlington Star-Telegram.

The writer and editor is Communication Coordinator Cheryel Carpenter. Graphic Artist Sarah Barr is responsible for design and layout.

"The Arlington Update City Page Newsletter is one of many tools currently being used by the City to connect with the residential and business community," said Director of Communication April Nixon. "We are pleased to have been recognized by our peers."

The Arlington Update City Page Newsletter was launched in March 1999 after an 8-page quarterly newsletter was discontinued because of rising printing and distribution costs. Today, the newsletter reaches more than 173,000 readers because of its presence in the metro section of the Arlington Star-Telegram. The newsletter is also available online at www.ci.arlington.tx.us.

During the conference, the City was also a finalist in the category of special publications for its Welcome to the City Council Meeting brochure, which is available in the Council Chamber. It is an information resource tool distributed to visitors attending the Regular Meeting of the Arlington City Council.
