At The Library in May by Cheryel Carpenter May 13, 20, and 27 – The Family Caregiver Workshop This workshop is sponsored by the Tarrant County Area Agency on Aging and is for anyone who helps an older adult with chronic illness or community service needs. Workshop topics include the behavior and emotions of aging, community and Internet resources, financial and legal planning, independence, home safety and meeting the needs of the caregiver. These classes meet the Northeast Library at 1905 Brown Blvd. on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for three weeks. Register by calling 817-459-8847. May 17 – A Multicultural Celebration: Outdoor Concert at the East Branch Library Starting at 6:30 p.m., this free outdoor concert features performers from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The East Branch Library is located at 1624 New York Ave. Ongoing Throughout May: Miniature European Village Display A quaint European Village setting is on display at the George W. Hawkes Central Library at 101 E. Abram St. The village was first created using papier-mâché in the early 1970’s. Joe and Bonnie Red purchased the village in 1991, restored it and donated it to the library. The public is invited to see this work of art, which is located in the Central Library lower stair basement lobby. Jobs at Your Fingertips The DFW Jobcenter is an interactive employment center. It is now available at the George W. Hawkes Central Library at 101 E. Abram St. This one-stop employment shop allows you to browse through jobs listed in the Dallas Morning News and check for Job Fairs in the area. Print out job listings that interest you. In many cases, you can apply for the job while you are at the Kiosk. There is no limit to the number of jobs you can apply for, and your application will be sent to the employer for you. Listings are updated daily. Sponsored by Jobview.com, the DFW Jobcenter is located on the first floor near the adult reference desk. TexShare Databases The Arlington Public Library System offers more than 70 databases for use in the library and remotely from a home computer. The databases are provided by the Texas State Library. Thousands of articles and information about a wide variety of topics are arranged by subject. Literature, newspaper and magazine databases are the most popular with students. Business, medical, legal, history and genealogy information databases are also popular. Learning to search for information in library databases is not difficult.
