Quiz Tests Public Knowledge of Arlington As a City by Cheryel Carpenter As part of an effort to encourage greater citizen participation in the 2025 Visioning Process, the City of Arlington Department of Planning and Development Services has developed a 15-question true or false quiz to test public knowledge about the city and to get people talking about the future. "Most of the answers will surprise you," according to 2025 Visioning Process Project Manager John Taylor. "There are a lot of trends occurring in Arlington that people are unaware of. The City is not the same as it was several years ago." Is Arlington a suburb? Is Arlington one of the 60 largest cities in the United States? Does Arlington have more tourists annually than any city in the Metroplex? True and false questions like these and others are part of the quiz, which is available at www.arlingtonforums.net and by linking to the 2025 Visioning Page. The quiz was developed by staff members. "We want people to stop and think a moment about where Arlington is today," Taylor said. "Then, they will be better prepared to start thinking about the future." Arlington 2025 is a comprehensive strategic planning and community visioning process involving more than 100 local organizations whose mission is to develop a shared vision for guiding the City into the future. The process represents the single most extensive citywide visioning process ever undertaken in Arlington. To take an active role in this process, make plans to attend a community workshop at 6 p.m. Monday, May 12 at the Central Library, 101 E. Abram St. For more information about the Arlington 2025 Visioning Process, call 817-459-6663. |
