Fire Department Celebrates the Life of Retired Arlington Fire Chief Patrick Martin by Cheryel Carpenter Retired Arlington Fire Chief Patrick Glenn Martin, Sr. died Wednesday, April 2. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the First Methodist Church located at 313 N. Center St. in Arlington. Interment will follow at the DFW National Cemetery in Grand Prairie. Chief Martin began his 29-year career with Arlington in 1952. He worked his way through the ranks of driver, training officer, captain and assistant chief. In March 1965, he became the youngest fire chief in Texas. He served 16 years as the Arlington Fire Chief. His many achievements in the Fire Department included memberships in the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Tarrant County Fire Chiefs Association. He was also past president of the North Texas Firemen’s Association. Chief Martin was a longtime resident of Arlington and a graduate of Arlington High School. He attended the Fire Department Management Program at Southern Methodist University and the Arson Investigation and Training Instructor programs at Texas A&M University in College Station. He was named Fireman of the Year in 1958 and Tarrant County Fire Chief of the Year in 1967. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country in Korea. Chief Martin and wife, Jacqueline, lived in the Cedar Creek Lake area where he served on the Finance Committee of the Cedar Creek United Methodist Church. While in Arlington, he was a member of Fielder Road Baptist Church. Chief Martin served the citizens of Arlington for 29 years. He leaves behind a large Fire Department family. We are proud to have been a big part of his life. He will be missed. |
