New Year’s Day Closings and City Service Schedules in Arlington

The Arlington Municipal Building, Municipal Office Tower and many other city offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Because of the holiday, some offices will close early on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

The George W. Hawkes Central Library on Abram Street will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. All Arlington public library branches will be closed Wednesday. Regular library hours will resume Thursday, Jan. 2.

According to Handitran officials, there will be no special transportation services on Wednesday. Regular service will resume on Thursday.

The administrative offices of the Parks and Recreation Department on Main Street will be closed on New Year’s Day. On Tuesday, Dec. 31, the Elzie Odom Recreation Center will be open at 6 a.m. and close early at 6 p.m. All other city recreation centers will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. All recreation centers will be closed on New Year’s Day.

The Senior Recreation Centers will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be closed all day on Wednesday, Jan. 1. The Senior Recreation Center on Eunice Street will open at 8:30 p.m. for a New Year’s Eve dance. Admission is $10.

The Arlington Tennis Center will be closed New Year’s Day.

There will be no garbage and recycling pickups in the city on New Year’s Day. If your regular curbside recycling day is Wednesday, your recyclables will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 4.
