Pre-registration for Softball Umpire Training Continues Through January 15 by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Metro Fort Worth ASA Umpire Association, will offer slow pitch softball umpire training in January and February 2003. Pre-registration for the training is required. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. A $30 fee per person is required at registration. Arlington softball leagues play every Sunday through Friday during the spring, summer and fall. Beginning umpire pay is $13 per game. Umpires average 3-4 games per night, and the opportunity to work several nights per week is available. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and complete the City of Arlington application process, which includes a criminal background check. To be eligible to officiate softball games, applicants must also pass the ASA Umpire Exam and attend training sessions.
