The City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department announces the winners of its citywide photography contest.

Arlington resident Sandra Bitenc submitted the grand prize winning photo of her five-year-old granddaughter, Emily Beck, on an afternoon stroll through Marti VanRavenswaay Park.

When Bitenc learned about the photo competition, she grabbed her camera and took her daughter and two granddaughters to Marti VanRavenswaay Park at 4601 Bowman Springs Road. She snapped many pictures, but chose to enter the photo that captured the trees, nature trail and one of her granddaughters with the United States flag.

Throughout November, Bitenc’s photo will be on display at the Parks Mall at Arlington. From December 4-14, it will be located at the Arlington Museum of Art. Her photo will be on the cover of the upcoming Parks Open Space Master Plan. Bitenc will receive $200 in cash and a $100 gift certificate from Southern Flair Photography.

The photography contest was open to all Arlington residents. Images must have been of activities occurring in an Arlington park, recreation facility, golf course, tennis center, lake or pool. Photos were judged on how well they captured the theme: "Celebrating the Freedom to Play." There were 108 photo entries. The winning photos are online at www.ci.arlington.tx.us.
