City Library Operations Coordinator is North Texas’ Employee of the Year by Cheryel Carpenter Library Operations Coordinator Sheila Smith will receive the Library Employee of the Year Award from the North Texas Regional Library System. The award will be presented Thursday, Sept. 26 in Wichita Falls during the NTRLS annual assembly meeting. The Library Employee of the Year Award recognizes superior achievement and outstanding leadership in one or more fields of library service. Smith joined the Arlington Public Library System in 1977 as a library assistant in the audiovisual department. During her career, she has been involved in projects such as the construction of the Northeast Branch Library, the renovation of three branch libraries, the automation of the library card system and reorganization of the Central Library. She is currently serving as the project manager for the construction of the City’s fifth branch library, the Southeast Branch Library, which is scheduled to open in late 2003. Smith’s coworkers and supervisors describe her as "conscientious and dependable." She is "always willing to help and possesses a positive and realistic attitude," according to nomination letters to the NTRLS awards committee by Library Director Rick Smith and Office Coordinator Lee Shqeir. |
