Section of North Cooper to Close for Three Weeks Beginning Sept. 9

by Cheryel Carpenter
September 6, 2002

Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, North Cooper Street between Main and Division streets will be closed to north and southbound traffic. The closure will allow contractors to install storm drains and water pipe lines in the area. Union Pacific Railroad will also complete the reconstruction of the rail crossing at Cooper Street between Main and Division. This area of North Cooper Street is scheduled to reopen by Monday, Sept. 30.

Motorists are encouraged to consider the following alternate north and southbound routes: Fielder, Davis, Mesquite, Center or Collins.

This closure is associated with the $9.4 million Cooper Street Improvement Project. North Cooper Street between Interstate 30 and Abram Street is being widened to six lanes. The project also includes landscaping, street lighting and utility upgrades. The target completion date is September 2003.
