City Celebrates June 30 Grand Opening of Randol Mill Aquatic Center by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for the grand opening of the Randol Mill Family Aquatic Center on Sunday, June 30. The aquatic center is located in Randol Mill Park at 1924 Randol Mill Rd. Pre-opening events will start around noon with games, contests, and an appearance by Parks’ mascot Ace Acorn. At 12:30 p.m. Mayor Elzie Odom and District 4 City Council member Robert Cluck, M.D. will make remarks and lead a countdown to open the gates at 1 p.m. The pool will remain open until 7 p.m. Clint Fish, the nine-year-old son of Park Planner James Fish, will take the first plunge down the 25-foot tall slide for a unique ribbon-cutting ceremony. According to Parks Manager Michelle Rice, the special tribute honors James Fish who worked countless hours on this project. Aquatics Program Manager Kym Lange expects the Aquatic Center to be sold out on Sunday to a capacity crowd of 860 guests. Radio Disney KMKI AM 620 will be present with music and prizes. Rubber ducky racers will be available for adoption throughout the day. At 4 p.m., a sea of 1,000 yellow ducks will race down the current channel and through the vortex. The first ten ducks to make it past the vortex pool will be declared winners. Grand opening tickets can be purchased before Sunday at any outdoor pool. Tickets have been discounted by $1 off regular admission. Regular admission to the pool is as follows: infants 12 months and under are free with a paid adult admission; toddlers 13 months to 4 years are $3.50; children 5 to 11 years are $5; and young adults 12 years and older are $5.50. The concession stand will sell items such as soft drinks,
hot dogs, pizza, candy and chips. Regular pool hours begin Monday, July 1.
Public swim hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information about
