Mayor to Present National Scholarship to Arlington Youth by Cheryel Carpenter On behalf of the U.S. Conference of Black Mayors, Arlington Mayor Elzie Odom will present a $1,000 scholarship to 18-year-old Monique Washington. Washington is a senior at Arlington High School. She plans to study criminal justice at Spellman College in Atlanta, GA. The scholarship will be presented at an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, May 13 at Arlington High School. On April 25, the National Conference of Black Mayors selected Washington from among more than 200 applicants during the NCBM national convention in Jackson, Miss. Odom said the scholarship program is in its third year of helping high school students achieve their post-secondary educational goals. |
