"Setting The Standard for Building Safety" by Cheryel Carpenter The City of Arlington will observe International Building Safety Week April 7-13. The goal is to emphasize the importance of building safety, which can protect the investment value of a construction project. Activities for the week will include an open house, public tours, children’s safety activities, and a proclamation from the Mayor and City Council. Tuesday, April 9 is Homeowners’ Permit Night. Arlington homeowners can conduct business transactions after-hours with City building officials. Plan reviewers, supervisors and a Spanish-language interpreter will be on-site to assist homeowners until 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Arlington Municipal Building, 101 W. Abram St. "On the evening of April 9, we will be able to issue building permits on the spot, providing better and faster services to our customers," said Asst. Director of Development Services George Patterson. The City’s Building Inspections Division performs ordinance enforcement in the areas of construction, zoning, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and signage activities. Building Inspections also reviews plans prior to permit issuance, and performs general field inspections of commercial and residential construction. The division issues approximately 600 new residential building permits each year. For more information, call Assistant Building Official Ed Dryden at 817-459-6521.
