November 4-10 is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. The City of Arlington Animal Services Division and the Humane Society of the United States are asking citizens to take a closer look at the valuable role their animal shelter plays in enhancing the quality of life in their community.

Arlington residents are invited join Animal Services personnel on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for National Animal Shelter Open House Day. The shelter is located at 5920 W. Pioneer Parkway. The event will offer low cost rabies shots for $5, face painting, pet adoptions, animal performances, hourly shelter tours, animal licensing and a variety of other activities. Low cost rabies shots will be limited to the first 200 animals.

Animal Services is a division of the Neighborhood Services Department. The division enforces animal control laws, helps to return lost pets to their owners, rescues injured animals, educates the public and matches families with new animal companions.

How can Arlington residents get involved?

  • Offer a donation of needed supplies;
  • Spread the word about the importance of responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering;
  • Volunteer your time to a local shelter;
  • Report animal cruelty and neglect;
  • Tour Arlington Animal Services at 5920 W. Pioneer Parkway and choose your next pet from among the animals being cared for at the shelter. To schedule a tour, call Animal Services at 817-451-3436.
