Arlington to Recognize Animal Essay Contest Winners by Cheryel Carpenter The Arlington City Council will recognize the winners of the City’s first Animal Essay Contest at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 in Council Chamber, 101 W. Abram St. The essay contest was open to public school students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 within the city limits of Arlington. More than 333 essays were submitted. Essay topics were designed around educational programs presented by the Animal Services Division of the Department of Neighborhood Services. The contest was coordinated by District 2 Council Member Sheri Capehart and the City of Arlington with community sponsorship from Dr. Allan Saxe and the Arlington Star-Telegram. U.S. Savings Bonds will be presented to the top three winners in each category. First place winners will receive $500, second place winners will receive $350 and third place winners will receive $150.
