The Mayor’s Award for Neighborhood Excellence will recognize nine winning residential and commercial properties that judges say represent the best examples of new construction, landscaping, revitalization and earth friendly initiatives in the city. The award program will also recognize 28 properties that earned honorable mentions. Thirty-seven nominations were received.

The winning properties will be recognized by the Arlington City Council at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 in Council Chamber, 101 W. Abram St. Temporary signage will be placed on all winning properties.

The award program began in 1992 and is a coordinated effort of the Office of the Mayor and Council, Neighborhood Services Department, the Code Enforcement Division, and the Parks and Recreation Department. Citizen volunteers serve as judges who evaluate nominations using a variety of criteria, including visual appeal, maintenance and overall neighborhood enhancement.
