Arlington Responds to Hurricane Gustav and Ike

Hurricane Gustav |
|
Over the past three years, the Louisiana and Texas gulf coast has
been ravaged by tropical storms and hurricanes. Again this year, the
gulf coast has suffered two hurricanes, Hurricane Gustav on
September 1 and now Hurricane Ike. Both have been disruptive to the
residents who live along the coast.
Being able and willing to help is more than just an obligation; it is
the right thing to do. Not only are our emergency personnel well trained
and prepared for Arlington’s emergency needs but we are able to respond
to regional, state and federal emergencies as well.
Once again our neighbors are threatened by a natural disaster. Our
traditional service organizations, city employees and ordinary citizens
have banded together to create a safe haven for those seeking shelter.

Hurricane Ike |
I am extremely proud of how quickly Arlington is able to respond. Along
with our regional and community partners, we were able to host over 300
guests seeking refuge from Hurricane Gustav. Today, we are hosting
guests from the Texas gulf coast looking for a chance to ride out
Hurricane Ike.
Without hesitation, Arlington is always ready to do what it can. The
City Council and I want to thank everyone who has made a commitment to
help. Your thoughtful, considerate, and caring attitude is what makes
Arlington great but your gesture and service to comfort those in need is
what really counts.
Being prepared and ready to go when called is in the greatest
tradition of public service.

Robert N. Cluck, M.D.
Mayor of Arlington
