A division of Management Resources, the Office of Knowledge
Management is focused on the intellectual capital within the
organization. Our richest asset is our employees. They are the
experts who maintain and carry out the vision and mission as set
forth by the Arlington City Council. The Office of Knowledge
Management assists employees in accessing relevant data in a fast
and efficient way, and re-using it as part of normal work processes.
The Division’s primary vision is on identifying, creating,
representing, and distributing knowledge for re-use, awareness and
learning across the organization. Knowledge Management, in its
truest form, is focused on letting employees contribute and
discover. It's about making it easier to find the right document or
person to help perform a task better, faster and more consistently.
The Knowledge Management focus on improving processes and
increasing collaboration means that a great deal of our work is done
at the employee level. We leverage technology and applications that
assist employees in sharing and distributing knowledge.
Implemented Projects:
Everest
Everest is a Citizen Relationship Management System, which
provides for the recording and routing of citizen concerns,
inquiries, or suggestions. This system allows any City of
Arlington employee to act as a customer service agent.
Additionally, citizens can access the system in a self-service
format from the City of Arlington website. The Everest System
utilizes a SQL database which allows for reporting on the
frequency and types of contact we have with our citizens.
Agenda Manager
Agenda Manager or Laserfiche is a City Council agenda
process development tool. This application centralizes the
submission and creation process to a single application. Agenda
Manager helps employees to manage the submission approval and
packet creation processes. Additionally, the application is
supported by a SQL database which maintains a history or the
submission and approval process.
Other Projects include:
- Document Management, including archive and retention
- Performance Management and Executive Dashboard
- Employee Suggestion Program
- Open records process improvements
- Expanding the Everest project to include performance management
goals
